Baby Shower Sugar Cookies

8

I was asked to do cookies for a baby shower.  Because the invitations to the baby shower were turtles, we decided to do turtle cookies.

It was fun trying to match the colors – I must admit that one of my weaknesses is mixing colors – experimenting with combining colors to create just the perfect color.  But I guess that will come with practice.   I would love to hear any suggestions or great tips that anyone has regarding mixing colors.  What is your favorite kind of coloring?  Gel paste or powder?

You did a great job matching the colors!!! They’re perfect! I have a hard time with that too. Especially red/pinks for some reason. I primarily use Americolor gels…just never tried others. What do you use?

Thanks! I use both the Wilton gel and the Americolor gels. I like the Americolor gels better than Wilton, but use Wilton because I can get those locally. However, I’m not overly happy with the Wilton white that is a liquid, not paste. Changes the consistency of the icing. I have also tried Duff color gels – I used those because of the “electric” blue, pink and purple colors. I really liked the colors, however, I noticed that they were harder to stir in completely. The first time I used them I noticed that on the cookies you could see the pattern I used to put the runny royal icing on the cookie after it had dried. Maybe it was because the colors were so vibrant. It’s interesting you have a hard time with red/pinks – those give me a hard time also!

Never tried Duff, but they sell it at the local craft store here so I might have to give it a try!

Those are great links! And I think they will be very helpful. I just don’t have the “vision” of color. I think some colors will blend and make the color I want, but then I’m surprised by what actually comes out. I have to admit that the part I like least about decorating cookies is making the icing colors.
