Popcorn Sugar Cookies

When I was doing the sugar cookie bouquet for the Docutah event, I wanted to make some small bite size sugar cookie samples to hand out at the reception before the film.  And nothing goes better with a film than popcorn – so I decided to try to make some sugar cookie popcorn.  Here is what I came up with:

If you want to know how I did the popcorn, please keep reading. First I cut out small bite size flowers and then I “chunked” them, which basically means I cut out chunks from the flowers, and then I “smooshed” them: DSC_0139

At this point I was still a little skeptical that it would look like popcorn.  But I pressed on and added the royal icing to the popcorn sugar cookies.

Once I put the finished sugar cookies in the popcorn bucket I was pleased with how they turned out.  Something kind of fun and unexpected.  I think these sugar cookies in a little popcorn bucket would make a cute gift to give to someone along with some movie tickets.

M I C K E Y…why? To Cheer Her Up

My friend took her family to Disneyland for their family vacation.  While there her daughter ended up in the hospital and spent the next week enjoying their vacation from a hospital bed.  I don’t even think Mickey visited her in the hospital.  I’m very happy to report she’s doing just fine.  Her souvenir was an incision on her knee with over a dozen staples holding it all together. So, to cheer her up I decided to take her a sugar cookie bouquet.  And the theme of the bouquet…. well, Mickey Mouse of course!  I got the Mickey Mouse cookie cutter several months ago, mostly because I love Mickey Mouse.  Yes, I will admit it – I LOVE MICKEY! Just ask my friends.  I have a friend that is somewhat horrified by this fact, but she is even more horrified by the fact that my bathroom is completely decorated in a Mickey Mouse/Disney theme.  My favorite Disney character, you ask?  The evil queen from Snow White.  I always wonder what that says about me, but whatever it is I’m sure it’s good. Anyway, back to the bouquet….. I wanted the Disney theme and wanted to use bright colors.

Sugar Cookies for Charity

I was asked to prepare two baskets of six cookies for a charity auction.  Ah, did you think Charity was a person?  The auction was to raise money for a science and math camp for 7th grade girls.  They requested that I make a cookie with their logo on it and a cookie with the name of the camp. The auction included a fashion show and the theme of the fashion show was The Desert in Bloom.  To go along with the fashion and “blooming” theme we decided to include 2 flowers and two dresses. One basked contained regular sugar cookies and the other had chocolate sugar cookies.
